“There will be no calling of general local elections, because elections were held in ten municipalities one, two or three years ago. Councilors’ mandate is four years and according to the Law on Local Elections no one has the right to terminate the mandate of the committee members before the expiry of these four years,” said the Parliament Speaker and denied saying that she would not call the elections in northern Kosovo and Metohija.
“That means that we will call the elections for councilors in many municipalities at the same time as the parliamentary elections.” The issue of implementation of local elections in Kosovo and Metohija is delicate because, as per Resolution 1244, it requires cooperation with international community in Kosovo and Metohija,” – said Dejanovic.
To the direct question of whether and when will be decided the calling of municipal elections in Kosovo, the Parliament Speaker replied: “the implementation of this decision is delicate.”
Earlier today Novi Magazin has announced that the President Speaker will not call local elections in the north of Kosovo although this is a constitutional obligation, but Resolution 1244 sets the limits.
