“The party that enters the elections and avoids the answer to the question about its position afterwards, does not deserve a single vote. Yes, I want to be a part of the future government, but we are not interested in mathematical coalitions. If we get support for our policy (in the elections) we will talk very clearly with those with whom we have to and we can in order to implemented this policy. That is the triangle in question, but I am more interested in their political goals, “Jovanovic said in an interview with Novi Magazin.
As a part of future government, “Preokret” is interested in agriculture and education, because “any attempt of the modernization of Serbia which neglects the fact that 40 percent of people live in rural areas is doomed to failure.”
“We are a medieval peasant society, with such a mentality and character.
Another system that scares me is education. We used to be a society with 50 percent of functionally illiterate people and now that figure came down to 30 percent of functionally illiterate students, “said Jovanovic.
LDP coalition wants a new kind of political agreement that Serbia has not had before because politicians were not willing to tell the truth, he added. A key issue that must be agreed is the goal of this country and the deadline for achieving it, he said.
“The assurances that we will avoid the crisis and that we will benefit from it have led us to this 2012. in which all the elements of our program have become undisputed; the criticism of the energy agreement with Russia, the inefficiency of public enterprises, the need for the reform of pension fund, the different system of public spending and the acceleration and completion of privatization,” said Jovanovic.
Another tasks Serbia has to face are: more efficient transition in the concept of civil and human rights and media, as well as the changing attitude towards the region and Kosovo, but not so that “Serbia could pay its ticket to the EU.”
“Look at the north of Kosovo, it is clear that the Serbs there were kept in the nineties all these time, and at the moment when the question of personal responsibility for further European integration was raised, and I refer to Tadic, the turnover was made over night and these people were left to wander as a ricochet in that national space, posing a threat to themselves, to others and to Serbia,” said the leader of the LDP.
Jovanovic added he sees the announced elections in Kosovo as compromising and threatening to Serbia and to the Serbian community in the North.
Explaining the relationships with potential coalition partners, Jovanovic said that he has no problem with Ivica Dacic and his closeness with Milosevic in the past, but does have a problem when Dacic is using the language he spoke with the director of the National Library, the language of Milosevic and added: “I have a problem with Tadic because he leads selfish policy and expects from us to accept him as the president of Serbia, although he constantly acts as the president of a party.”
The speculations about early presidential elections Jovanovic considers as “cheap political thriller.”
“He (Tadic) has been making decisions that have disappointed part of his electorate since he became the president in 2004, but the most ferocious ambition is to push this traumatized country into even deeper chaos. The fact that one day before the announcement of the elections we did not know when they will be held and which elections we are to engage, is an expression of arrogance that I do not understand,” said Jovanovic.
Explaining his connections with the business elite, LDP leader said that both he and the party are independent: “We do not owe anything to that world, regardless of whether we are talking about Miskovic, Beko, Kostic, Vojin Lazarevic or anyone else from that world who are one day being mentioned as main culprits for the country’s collapse and the next day as the rescuers of JAT Airways or of some other company.
“We all know who has money in Serbia today, and those who are not satisfied with the business elite can answer whether such elite has made Serbia incompetent or of incompetent Serbia has created a number of abnormalities, including such elite. Personally, I criticize business people for being more concerned about their own interest rather than the economic development in Serbia, I am not supporting that world and have a clear view of their level of responsibility,” Jovanovic said in an interview with Novi Magazin.
